Tickets are $25 which includes movie, popcorn and drink.  This is a special showing so please reserve a seat.

All proceeds will help adults with special needs travel to Florida in March as well as to Camp Misquah for their summer programs.

2008 DSA-NCR Charity Golf Classic

The 2008 DSA-NCR and H'Art Charity Golf Classic was held on August 11th this year and was a huge success.

Opportunity at LWP for Friday Program - Ages 13-17

LiveWorkPlay, Ottawa's leading self-advocacy organization for people with intellectual disabilities, is offering a rare opportunity for new registrants in their Journeys community participation program. People with mild intellectual disabilities ages 13-17 are invited to apply for this Friday night program, which operates weekly from 7-10 pm until early June. Journeys supports the development of peer relationships as well as a variety of community participation skills such as using public transportation, managing money, and personal safety. The annual registration fee is just $350. Please inquire asap to Julie Kingstone at 613-235-9550 x 222 or email julie@liveworkplay.ca. There are just four spaces available, and qualified candidates will be accepted according to the order of application.

For adults with an intellectual disability with a high level of independence and social skills, who want an opportunity to interact with peers in a relaxed atmosphere. City of Ottawa Survey on Recreation for children with special needs
The City of Ottawa is working on an environmental scan to determine the recreational needs of children with special needs between the ages of 12 to 18 yrs of age. It would be very helpful if feedback can be provided from as many groups and agencies as possible.

Help Build an Inclusive and Accessible Canada on Nov 22nd - Ottawa
In November 2006 over 300 people gathered in Ottawa to celebrate the accomplishments of Canadians with disabilities over the past 25 years. Over 100 organizations stood together in partnership and solidarity, signing the Declaration of Principle and joining in the discussions that focused on Building an Inclusive and Accessible Canada.

On November 22, 2007, Canadians with disabilities will gather once again in Ottawa and move into action. Using the 2006 Declaration as the foundation, initiative partners will finalize a National Action Plan focusing on Building an Inclusive and Accessible Canada, by the end of the event.

Propeller Dance - Dance class for all Abilities

All adults and youth with and without a disability are welcome.

Classs are Mondays Oct 15 - Dec 10 from 7-8:30pm. Richelieu-Vanier Community Centre

PROPELLER DANCE uses the DanceAbility teaching methodology. DanceAbility is an improvisation methodology created specifically for teaching integrated groups of people with and without disability. Participants use their own natural movements within structured dance improvisation exercises that emphasize independent choice making. If you breathe, you can dance. Workshops to protest the lack of funding for the MCSS Pasports Program - Last Workshop Sept 22nd

In Ottawa 197 families qualified for this program to integrate their family members into community activities, but only 12 people with developmental disabilities will be funded in September 2007!

 

It’s time for families to mobilize and to advocate for appropriate levels of funding!
